I decided to add an extra little LED light last week, directly above the little avocado tree I started this summer, to help it through the winter in the house. It seems to be happy with the addition so far. I doubt the dieffenbachia plants around it have a problem with the extra light. 😎

New Plants Alert!
Whenever I bring home new plants that I know I don’t have room for, I don’t panic… Because I know I DO have room… somewhere… and I’ll find it. 🤭

Joking aside, I feel that it’s very important to quarantine new plants when they show up at my house.

*shop locally, think globally*

I try not to buy from big box stores, (or online) and support locally, small nurseries, and planty-people like myself…
But I don’t care who they’re coming from or how well they’ve been treated- until I am absolutely certain they are pest free, it is not worth contaminating my other babies! I simply have too many now to be playing those games. 🪴🪴🪴🪴

It’s hot and it’s humid and it’s sunny, and it has been all summer… and my garden is LOVING IT!

“Sad” yellow leaves are often not a sad sight. A yellowing leaf at my house usually means the plant is growing fast and happy! This yellow leaf might have been concerning, if the roots weren’t looking so amazing by now- plus there is a new leaf started on both of these props! Definitely time to plant! 🌱I’m so excited to be planting these! I had a Scale infestation on this plant out of nowhere, and I panic and chopped it completely down to nothing. In the pot was this adansonii and a mini/ginny. I didn’t realize I had mixed them together years ago, and at the time it was my only Monstera. What’s better than a Dieffenbachia? A tree-sized Dieffenbachia with three babies! 😍

I’m guessing at some point I will need to figure out how to split this plant up… she just touched the ceiling for the first time the other night, and I’ve heard that they can get tall and stemmy and lanky.

She tried to tip over on me last year, which is when I added the large stake. I’m so excited every day to see her grow.

I have a variety of five different dieffenbachia now, but she was my first, and for a long time my only, and she continues to teach me!

I have duplicates of MOST of my houseplants... but the more variety I acquire, the less duplicates I keep around.

I started my houseplant collection after moving across the country a few years ago, with only a few tiny plants and some cuttings. At that point, I was keeping every single spider and pothos I had, and propagating more, just trying to fill my new home with plants on the cheap.

The more I “branch” out (pun intended) and as my collection “grows” (literally), the fewer duplicates I keep around. I’m simply running out of space and time to be keeping & watering 7 of the exact same type of pothos plant! 🪴
